On June 11, 2025, Grounded Accountability Model Community of Practice (GAM CoP) members gathered to share practical experiences, connect with one another, and explore ways to further develop and apply the methodology.
Summary
- GAM Implementation Experiences: Participants introduced themselves and shared their experiences implementing GAM in various countries (Honduras, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, South Sudan, Kyrgyzstan) highlighting successes, challenges, and lessons learned. Key points included the importance of community relationships, staff time commitment, and translation issues.
- Catalytic Learning Event in Casablanca (Report): Daniel provided a summary of the learning event where various organizations shared their experiences implementing and adapting GAM. Key objectives included strengthening the community of practice, exchanging lessons learned, and promoting collaborative innovations. Adaptations and applications of GAM in different contexts (Columbia, Nigeria, South Sudan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan) were discussed.
- Next Steps for GAM CoP: Oscar discussed the future of the GAM CoP included establishing regional representatives, launching innovation funds, planning future meetings, and discussing sustainability beyond the current funding cycle.
- Regional Representatives: Regional representatives shared their backgrounds, motivations for the role, and visions for their respective regions. They highlighted themes of community empowerment, equity, and using GAM for peacebuilding and accountability. Any CoP members may volunteer to become regional representatives.Â
- Innovation Funds: Rachel shared information about innovation funds available for community of practice members to experiment with GAM in specific priority areas, such as storytelling, new tools, in-person exchanges, and advocacy.Â
- Discussions: Responding to a CoP member’s question, GAM practitioners shared the ways in which the methodology is both similar to and different from other participatory approaches.
- Digital Platform for GAM and EPI Indicators: Eliza presented a new initiative to create an interactive portal for accessing and exploring Everyday Peace Indicators (EPI) and GAM indicators. This platform aims to make data more accessible to researchers, practitioners, and the general public, and will include a large language model for querying the data.
