About the Campaign
What is conflict sensitivity & integration? What successes have practitioners found with conflict sensitivity? How do we push from mere conflict sensitivity to conflict integration?
Together, ConnexUs & USAID are hosting Conflict Sensitivity & Integration: How Peacebuilders Can Influence Development Outcomes, an online crowdsourced knowledge-sharing campaign through the end of 2022.
As a crowdsourced platform for social impact in conflict-affected areas, we want you to participate however you can from wherever you are. The campaign will feature global discussions on ConnexUs, three Thursday Talk roundtables hosted by USAID & Search for Common Ground, knowledge sharing & more.
About Conflict Sensitivity & Integration
Conflict-affected and fragile states are highly vulnerable to a range of compounding challenges, such as food insecurity, climate change, global price shocks & COVID-19. Instability & insecurity are problems in their own right but also undermine individual & community resilience to these shocks & degrade societies’ ability to tackle other development challenges. Similarly, most humanitarian responses are driven by complex crises: human, rather than natural, disasters. Neither peace nor development can be treated as separate from one another. Tackling these complex interactions & multidimensional threats requires a more integrated approach that sees & targets the connections.
Peacebuilding practitioners have long advocated for this integration in the form of conflict sensitivity—the practice of understanding how aid interacts with conflict in a particular context, to mitigate unintended negative effects & to influence conflict positively wherever possible. The moment has come to transform the way we approach aid & peacebuilding alike by deepening our commitment to the deliberate integration of conflict & violence prevention across the spectrum of development programming.
Integrating a conflict & violence prevention lens requires more than conflict sensitivity. It requires policymakers & practitioners to design interventions that achieve core development gains & promote peace. This thematic campaign aims to advance a collective vision & plan for integrating a conflict & violence prevention perspective across all development programming.
