GPPAC and UNDP worked closely with GPPAC members Center for Conflict Resolution (CECORE) in Uganda, Voices In the Vision for Africa (VIVA) in Zimbabwe, and PROPAZ in Mozambique to develop a Guidance Note aimed at supporting local peacebuilding networks to conduct a localised climate security risk assessment.

In Mozambique, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, local climate security experts as well as formal and informal local community structures, including peace communities and early warning monitoring systems, are already in place to track and analyse signals linked to climate-related security risks. The Guidance Note integrates the local knowledge and expertise of those local peacebuilders to serve as a practical resource for local peacebuilding experts worldwide to develop their climate security risk assessment.

During this informal learning dialogue on 30 March, peacebuilding practitioners will present the five steps outlined in the Guidance Note to conduct a localised climate security risk assessment. The informal learning dialogue will further provide a space to exchange ways local peacebuilders have utilised and can utilise the Guidance Note to build local resiliency to climate change and conflict.
