This toolkit provides a short, simple overview of conflict sensitivity and how it can be applied specifically to activity implementation, followed by a short conflict sensitivity analysis exercise to be done when planning program activities. While designed for the FoRB context, it can be used in any sort of program activity implementation.
Conflict sensitivity is the ability of an organization to:
- Understand the context it operates in;
- Understand the interaction between its intervention(s) and that context, and
- Act upon this understanding in order to minimize negative impacts and
maximize positive impacts on conflict.
A conflict sensitive approach to programming involves bringing awareness of
conflict dynamics to programming and implementing program activities in a
way that minimizes the risk that the activity causes more harm than good
and/or increases the likelihood of violence and maximizes opportunities to
contribute to peace.
