The “strengthening access to information, dialogue, and exchanges through Media in the Great Lakes Region” project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, aimed to empower media professionals across Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Rwanda to report effectively on peace and security issues.
Key findings indicate that 80.75% of media professionals gained confidence in producing conflict-sensitive content. Collaborative efforts saw 64.2% expressing confidence in diverse group collaborations for impartial reporting. Interactions among peers from different sectors increased for 52% of respondents, fostering trust in addressing common interest information.
Insights from both media professionals and communities underscore the project’s impact, suggesting ongoing training programs, gender-inclusive reporting, and strengthened collaboration. Recommendations include expanding coverage, enhancing social media presence, and continuing cross-country dialogues. By implementing these recommendations, the project can further empower media professionals and promote peace, security, and social cohesion in the Great Lakes region.
