This training package for Digital Community Stewards to Build Social Cohesion in Online Communities is a truly collaborative product. It began with lessons learned from Search’s Sri Lanka ‘Cyberguardians’ project, which in 2019, demonstrated the power of digital community stewards to prevent online harm from triggering violence offline. Understanding the potential of these stewards to prevent harm and drive social cohesion, we codified and expanded on the materials from Sri Lanka, and in mid-2022, tested them with an international group of digital community stewards from across Africa, Asia, North America, and the Middle East. Their feedback greatly enriched the curricula you find here today.
Special thanks to Dharini Priscilla, technical lead of the project, for developing and writing these resources. Our gratitude goes to Kiruthika Thurairajah, Emma Jackson and Durga Pulendran for providing feedback and insight to make this curriculum a valuable and comprehensive resource. Further support and guidance was provided by Nawaz Mohammed, Marisa Fernando, Hilde Deman, Jack Farrell, Alexandra Buccianti, Levi Heath, and Lena Slachmuijlder.
