Job Description:
About the Position: We are in the launch phase of a multi-year State Resilience Program (in partnership with Common Ground USA) that will bring together leaders from different sectors and backgrounds in Ohio and Arizona to build and strengthen violence prevention systems on the state level. The State Director will play a central role in building this program and will be responsible for project and relationship management for all Ohio state-level and local programming and partnerships. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced program manager with the demonstrated ability to maintain meaningful relationships with a broad set of local community and state-level actors.
What You’ll Do
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Program Design and Strategy
- Build Ohio-specific program strategy from broader program methodology in collaboration with the Director of Programs.
- Ensure compliance of all in-state programming and assist with risk management in collaboration with the Director of Programs and Operations Manager.
- Utilize contextual expertise to advise on program iteration throughout the duration of the project.
- Contribute to national-level program strategy and implementation as appropriate.
State-Level Program Management & Implementation
- Lead planning for relevant in-state programs, events, and activities, with support from the Over Zero State Resilience project team.
- Facilitate in-state meetings and workshops, with support from the Over Zero State Resilience Project team and external consultants, as appropriate.
- Manage spin-off projects initiated by program participants, including identifying logistical and programmatic needs, coordinating support, and ensuring compliance.
- Manage state-level and local consultants.
Ohio Partner Relationship Management
- Oversee recruitment of program participants.
- Build and manage relationships with and among program participants. Serve as the local point of contact to coordinate one-on-one support, including through connecting participants with external resources.
- Coordinate shared action among network members, including rapid response activities as needed.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Over Zero and state-level partner organizations.
Learning, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Represent Over Zero at local meetings and, at times, at national conferences on election violence prevention.
- Regularly stay abreast of current events, research, and other relevant contextual developments, including by attending relevant briefings and convenings.
- Manage impact tracking for state-level and local activities.
- Identify areas for improvement and iteration and implement programmatic changes accordingly.
- Contribute to relevant grant reports and proposals.

What You’ll Need
Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 8+ years of relevant experience, including demonstrated excellence in managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects with multiple competing deadlines.
- Experience building cross-sector coalitions with demonstrable results.
- Significant experience working and living in Ohio and/or deep knowledge of and relationships with civil society and community leaders in Ohio.
- A commitment to working across differences to build a more peaceful and just United States, and a commitment to Over Zero’s values.
- Evident experience with training, facilitation, or coaching.
- Basic fluency in Microsoft Office, social media platforms, marketing platforms (e.g. Mailchimp, Canva, WordPress, Squarespace, etc.), project management platforms (e.g. Teamwork, Asana, etc.) or ability and desire to learn.
- Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience.
Valuable Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Relevant expertise in mediation, political violence or identity-based violence prevention, or peace building.
- Competency in another language other than English (Spanish preferred).
Other things to note:
- While Over Zero is a decentralized, fully remote organization, to meet the demands of this position, candidates must be physically based in the state of Ohio.
- This position will require attending in-person events and meetings.
- This position will require regular travel within Ohio and occasional travel to other U.S. locations.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary: The starting salary range for this position is $85,000-$100,000, commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience, capabilities, and skills, and in alignment with internal equity.
