Burundi & Kenya | November 2023
The LOGIN East Africa! project, funded by the US State Department, addressed Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) in Kenya and Burundi. Through training, awareness campaigns, and cross-sector collaboration, the initiative empowered civil society, tech professionals, and service providers to foster safer online spaces for marginalized groups, including women, LGBTQI+ individuals, and ethnic minorities.
Key Results
- 89.69% of participants took action against TFGBV.
- Increased use of digital safety tools like encryption and two-factor authentication.
- Policy discussions in Burundi and Kenya advanced TFGBV integration into frameworks.
Key Recommendations
- Expand training and mental health support: Strengthen digital safety training for vulnerable groups and integrate mental health support into TFGBV response mechanisms to better assist survivors.
- Strengthen policy advocacy and partnerships: Enhance collaboration with governments and stakeholders to institutionalize TFGBV prevention and response.
- Localize awareness campaigns: Use culturally relevant approaches, such as community events and local media, to reduce stigma and promote inclusive participation.
