The “Strengthening the Rule of Law Framework to Support Religious Freedom in Kyrgyzstan Project”, initiated in September 2021 and concluded in July 2023, aimed to enhance the capacity of judicial, legal, and civil society actors in Kyrgyzstan to fairly resolve religious freedom disputes and promote a gender-sensitive, inclusive approach to strengthening religious freedom legislation.
The project built upon the achievements of its predecessor, “Promoting Religious Freedom Through Government and Civil Society Collaboration in the Kyrgyz Republic Project,” which had developed methodologies and tools for dealing with religious freedom cases in a fair and just manner. The current project extended the use of these tools to local communities, focusing on three key objectives:
- Objective 1: Judicial and legal actors shift their practice within religious freedom cases to mainstream gender sensitivity and religious freedom standards.
- Objective 2: To increase awareness of the legal framework around religious freedom in local communities, including among women’s groups and religious minorities.
- Objective 3: To strengthen collaborative policy dialogue between state- and non-state actors on furthering the legal Framework around religious freedom.
