The project created growing community interest in the importance of social accountability as a tool for improving service quality and bringing about positive change, including reducing corruption in service institutions.
Monitoring and advocacy activities led to tangible improvements in some aspects of service delivery, positively impacting citizens’ quality of life.
The project contributed to strengthening youth civic engagement and promoting good governance practices by involving young people in the process of monitoring and advocating for improved public services.

Results Related to Government Institutions’ Response
IYSO achieved significant results and changes through advocacy activities, particularly community hearing sessions and field monitoring reports, which contributed to improving the responsiveness of public institutions in addressing service issues in the water, sanitation, and cleaning sectors. The documented responses include the following:
- Rehabilitation of water distribution networks in Taiz, which was one of the key issues discussed during advocacy activities. The institution’s response contributed to improving citizens’ access to water services, although intermittently.
- Replacement of deteriorated sewage pipelines, which helped reduce sewage overflows in streets and neighborhoods in some areas of Taiz City.
- Revisiting the water distribution plan to ensure fairer distribution among targeted residential areas. Additionally, the Water Corporation responded to recommendations by publishing the water distribution schedule on Facebook, enhancing transparency in informing citizens about water distribution in their neighborhoods.
- The Cleaning and Improvement Fund provided new garbage bins in neighborhoods that suffered from waste accumulation, improving cleanliness levels in those areas and expanding cleaning services to new areas that had been deprived of them since the conflict began in Taiz in 2015.
- Implementation of cost-saving recommendations, reallocating surplus funds to purchase cleaning equipment, which improved operational efficiency and the quality of cleaning services in targeted areas.
- Activation of a complaints and suggestions system by the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in response to recommendations.
